Bundaberg is a thriving and attractive city, servicing a regional population of over 70,000. The city, known as the commercial, shopping and recreational hub of the Wide Bay region, is located on the banks of the Burnett River less than 4 hours drive north of Brisbane.
Attractions
The region is home to some of Australia's best scenery. About half way between Fraser Island and Agnes Waters, Bundaberg boasts the wide-open beaches of Bargara, Elliott Heads, Moore Park and Woodgate. Inviting hinterland country encompassing historic Childers, Gin Gin, and beyond, are just perfect for a week's escape.
The region's reputation as an affordable, easily accessible reef destination is unsurpassed. Being at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef, Lady Elliott and Lady Musgrave Islands offer a quiet getaway, untouched by large scale development or over population, as well as the shore diving adventures available right off the coast.
Other major attractions include The Mon Repos Turtle Rookery, The Bundaberg Rum Distillery, the Bundy Brewed Drinks "Big Barrel", Schmeider's Cooperage, Historic Hinkler House and the Botanical Gardens and much more.
